Is the library open?

Union Library reopened in a limited scope on July 29. We are not back to business as usual. Appointments are available browsing and computer use. Appointments last 30 minutes. One appointment per person, per day.

Will I have to wear a mask?

Yes. Masks are required in the library. Please note:

  • To help stop the spread of COVID-19, patrons and staff are required to wear a mask covering nose and mouth at all times and maintain six feet distance from other persons inside the library
  • If you have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus within 14 days, been exposed to it, or have symptoms, please make use of our online resources from your home. Do not come to the library
  • Children below age two are exempt from wearing a face covering. We encourage parents to make childcare arrangements for children under two if possible
  • Reasonable accommodations are available to those who are medically prevented from or decline to wear a face covering. Entrance into the library without a face covering is not a valid accommodation. Call or email the library to request an accommodation

Are you still offering contactless pickup?

Yes. We offer contactless pickup of books and materials in our parking lot. This option will be available for the foreseeable future.

You can request and check out books and other materials, and we’ll bring them out to your car. We also accept returns this way.

What about e-library resources?

You can access over a million titles 24/7 in our e-library. We encourage patrons to access these resources as much as possible.

Can I bring back books I’ve checked out?

Yes. We are accepting returns. Fines are waived through August 31, 2020.

We are not accepting book donations at this time.

Are you quarantining books before I check them out?

Yes. Following best practices, we quarantine all returned materials for at least 48 hours.

Please do not disinfect books yourself.

Can I request a meeting room or use the library for group study?

No. Based on the guidelines from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Department of Education, we cannot currently host group study, tutoring, meetings, or any gatherings of the public that don’t allow social distancing.

We will return to these services as soon as we can do so safely. We will post information on this as soon as we have it.

Will there be a book sale and shred in September?

Not in 2020. Unfortunately we weren’t sure of being able to do the sale/shred safely this year. We hope the Book Sale and Shred can return next year!
